While 5G mobile communication technology is expected to play an essential role in IoT (Internet of Things) applications, two narrowband LTE technology standards - LTE Cat-M1 (machine type communication) and LTE Cat-NB1 in 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) Release 13 - will become mainstream technology for IoT applications, according to Qualcomm at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2016.
