Taiwan makers struggling to automate equipment

Many Taiwan-based makers operating in China have been making efforts to automate production at their factories to reduce the impact of continued wage hikes, however, automation is actually not easy because most standard automation equipment does not suit their manufacturing processes, and customized models are too expensive. In addition, order volumes must be large enough to amortize the cost of automation, according to industry sources.
