LED chip aims for bulb replacements

International Rectifier is supporting single stage flyback and buck-boost topologies in LED driver designs for bulb replacement, tube lighting and downlights.

Its IRS29831 LEDrivIR controller integrates a 700V power mosfet with high-voltage start-up which is necessary for single stage designs.

Designed for both isolated and non-isolated flyback LED drivers, the device offers single stage primary side regulation with a high power factor and low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) along with open and short circuit protection.

It is designed to give flicker-free dimming with triac based dimmers. The device can also operate over a wide input voltage range. Protection features include hiccup mode open-load/over-voltage protection, cycle-by-cycle primary over current limiting, and output short circuit protection.

The 8-pin device also features critical-conduction mode operation, with discontinuous and burst modes at light load as well as the ability to allow users to configure isolated designs without an opto-coupler.
