MWC 2014: Qualcomm boosts Snapdragon for 4G LTE

MWC 2014 Qualcomm Technologies has introduced the latest generation Snapdragon processor the 801 on the first day of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.


Like the Snapdragon 800 processor, the Snapdragon 801 processor includes integrated 4G LTE Cat 4 and 802.11ac Wi-Fi for seamless connectivity, a quad core Krait 400 CPU for advanced processing performance and an Adreno 330 GPU.

But Qualcomm has increased DSP performance and camera sensor and memory components.


There are also improved mobile graphics and gaming, higher speed SD card memory, dedicated hardware for dual-SIM/dual active (DSDA) service in China.


The Snapdragon 801 processor is expected to be available in commercial devices this quarter.


Qualcomm also announced it is collaborating with Cisco to provide small cells for mobile operators to help address increasing demands for network capacity.
