The local government in Jiangsu Province, eastern China, increased wage rates on November 1, much later than other cities, to avoid imposing a heavy burden on electronics factories during the third quarter of 2014 when there was a serious shortage of labor. The minimum monthly wage increased CNY150 (US$24.50) to CNY1,680 and minimum hourly rate by CNY1.50 to CNY14.50, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
