Basic stop-start systems, which automatically stop a car's engine to prevent long idling times, are emerging as one piece of a complex approach to improving fuel economy in light duty vehicles. For recovering, storing, and reusing energy in stop-start vehicles (SSV), advanced versions of the lead-acid battery are currently the market's leading energy storage technology, and this is expected to continue through the forecast period. According to a recent report from Navigant Research, 90% of the light duty SSVs sold globally in 2024 are expected to feature a lead-acid battery.
