Power Integrations turns to cloud for design tool

Power Integrations PI Expert Mains power chip firm Power Integrations has released a cloud-based app version of its PI Expert Suite power supply design tool.

Previously, users downloaded the tool to a local PC or workstation. “With the cloud-based version, designers may access the design tool from any internet browser and can be sure that they are always using the most up-to-date version,” said the firm.

The software generates a schematic of the power supply, specifies the all-important transformer, and offers links to transformer manufacturers.

A heatsink calculation tool estimates thermal design requirements to guide layout and mechanical prototyping decisions.

PCB layout recommendations aim to minimise track-induced EMI and board area, and maximize noise immunity and surge tolerance.

“The cloud-based version of PI Expert Suite is loaded with easy-to-use wizard interfaces that help designers input specifications and optimise parameters,” said Peter Vaughan, director of applications engineering at Power Integrations. “The software then analyses thousands of design options to determine the most appropriate choice.”
