Texas Instruments has introduced a 16MHz 16bit RISC microcontroller with four 24bit sigma-delta ADCs, with differential programmable gain amplifiers.
ADCs have 2nd order over-sampling modulators and digital decimation filters. “The decimation filters are comb-type filters with selectable oversampling ratios of up to 256. This results in ADCs that have a high degree of resolution with a high degree of accuracy,” said Mouser, which is stocking the devices.
Called MSP430i2020, there is up to 32kbytes flash and up to 2kbytes RAM.
Peripherals include: two 16-bit timers with three capture/compare registers each and a 16×16 hardware multiplier supporting signed and unsigned multiply (as well as signed and unsigned multiply-accumulate), two enhanced universal serial communication interfaces, a temperature sensor, 1.8V regulator, and a brownout detector.
Power figures include: active current of 275µA/MHz at 16.384MHz, standby (watchdog active) for 210µA, RAM-retained off for 70µA, and 75nA lowest-power shut-down.
Wakeup from standby takes 1µs.
Proposed applications include smart meters, power monitoring, power control, and precision sensors.
