Italy PM to settle Micron dispute

The Italian prime minister has promised to resolve the Micron strike dispute by the end of the month.

Last Friday, Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi went to Catania where employees of Micron are protesting the attempt by Micron last August to lay off a third of its Italian workforce.

micron-251114-1-670x500 Renzi was met by some ST workers from one of the unions involved in the Micron dispute – FIOM (Federazione Impiegati Operai Metallurgici).

Then Renzi decided to stop his car, go outside and talk to the protestors.

Two Micron workers of the 32 who have not yet been re-employed, seven of whom are from Catania, were in the group of unionists.

The two Micron workers took advantage of the opportunity to explain the situation to Renzi.

The meeting was recorded and can be watched here:

The lady and the guy with the hat and the goatee (after min. 1:25): are two of the seven in Catania.

Renzi promised to solve the whole matter by 31 December.

Later, Renzi tweeted about the meeting – link.

The final sentence translates as: “The Micron workers are safe.”
