Alps UMDZ series
Freescale’s two year tie-up with Alps has yielded three automotive-grade mobile data and wireless connectivity modules for telematics and driver assistance systems (ADAS), based around Freescale’s i.MX 6 application processors with ARM Coretex-A9 cores.
The idea is to present automotive OEMs and their tier-one suppliers with ready-made modules for the standards-based wireless links that are starting to appear in cars.
“For example, in-vehicle Wi-Fi routers increasingly enable applications such as surround view video streaming, drive recorders and navigation systems,” said Freescale.
There is also in-vehicle smart phone connectivity and cloud services for vehicle-to-vehicle or vehicle-to-road communication.
Expected in early 2015, the modules support LTE, 802.11ac Wi-Fi (including 5GHz), and V2X; and beyond the radios included a graphic engine and I/O.
The modules:
- UMDZ series LTE/3G/2G module
- UMPZ series 5.9GHz V2X module
- UGKZ series 5GHz or 2.4GHz Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module
