While many Taiwan-based solar cell makers have started or plan to start producing PERC (passivated emitter and rear cell) - a type of monocrystalline silicon solar cells - in a bid to hike energy conversion rate to at least 20%, newcomers generally face manufacturing barriers arising from patents, according to industry sources.
