In a lean honours year for the tech industry the most notable recipient of a New Year Honour was Trevor Baylis.
Baylis was promoted from OBE to CBE.
The citation reads that the honour was for services to intellectual property.
Baylis, best known for his wind-up radio, now helps other inventors though Baylis Brands – an organisation he founded and heads which helps inventors get their products to market and which introduces them to other, potentially helpful, inventors.
Baylis wants to change the patent laws to protect inventors. One change he wants is to make patent theft a crime.
Baylis has a great concern that so many inventors get fleeced by rip-off merchants.
One of his maxims is that anyone can invent. “You don’t have to be a genius,” he says.
