Pre-charge relay for electric and hybrid vehicles

In electric and hybrid vehicles, to reduce initial surge currents from battery to inverter input capacitors at power-up, a capacitor pre-charge circuit can be employed.

For situations where this is done through a resistor and relay, Omron is offering the G9EJ-1 relay specifically designed for the job.

Rated at 25A at 400Vdc, it is 30 x 27 x 31mm and weighs around 50g.

“The relay is amongst the smallest solutions of its type in the industry,” said the firm, “It also features a high efficiency magnetic circuit which helps extinguish magnetic arcs which can damage the contact surface.”

Omron’s range of power relays also includes the larger 200A at 400Vdc G9EC (11W coil) which switch the motor circuit once pre-charge is complete.
