Marvell reference design combines Armada and Avastar

Marvell has introduced a 4×4 802.11ac Wave-2 Wi-Fi SoC called the AP3200 reference Platform which combines the company’s Armada and Avastar product lines.


Marvell avastar-chip The company says that by integrating dual concurrent 802.11 radios and Multi-User MIMO (MU-MIMO), AP3200 is for fanless applications such as enterprise access points (EAPs), smart gateways, multi-room carrier-grade video distribution, small/medium business (SMB) routers, and network-attached storage (NAS) devices, among others.


AP3200 is comprised of Marvell’s 88W8964 Avastar IC, featuring dual concurrent 802.11 radios (4×4 802.11ac Wave-2 with 160MHz support and MU-MIMO and a 4×4 802.11n with 256 QAM support).


AP3200 has the programmable networking and security offload capabilities of the ARMADA product line, freeing up the host CPU utilisation.


The Armada-395 SoC also integrates a dual core host CPU running at up to 1.8GHz and embedded support for 1Gbps/2.5Gbps/10Gbps Ethernet speeds for addressing different levels of network speeds. These features, coupled with Transmit Beamforming implementation, optimise the AP3200 for multi-stream, carrier-grade video distribution as well as other high performance, low latency applications.
