Taiwan is forecast by SEMI to be the largest spending region for both 2014 and 2015, marking five out of the past six years as the number one equipment market.
Taiwan spent $80 billion of the $330 billion spent on semiconductor between 2010 and 2013, reports SEMI.
This year Taiwan will spend $21 billion on equipment and materials and $22 billion next year, says SEMI.
TSMC is estimated to be investing over $8.5 billion in its fabs this year, UMC is continuing to make investments in 28-nm processing capacity, Micron (Inotera and Rexchip) are investing in 20nm technology and Nanya, Winbond and Macronix are also upping their investment.
The Assembly & Packaging and Test equipment markets in Taiwan are now forecasted to grow over 20% in 2014 driven by demand for wafer bumping, wafer-level packaging, and other advanced packaging form factors.
ASE has a capex budget of $1 billion, Siliconware (SPIL) $600 million and KYEC looks to spend about $200 million.
