TSMC to build $16bn Mega-Fab

TSMC says it will invest $15.9 billion building a fab in the central Taiwan science park at Taichung.

TSMC’s existing Taichung fab generated 28% of TSMC’s total output last year amounting to some $6.4 billion.

Although TSMC does not give details of the fab it can be assumed that the new fab will be a Mega-Fab capable of running 100k wpm.

For the current year, TSMC has budgeted capex of $11.5 billion to $12 billion.

In 2014, TSMC had revenues of$24 billion.
