SolarWorld shift to mono-Si wafers due to inability to compete with China makers

Germany-based PV maker SolarWorld has decided to adjust its production capacity to enhance its overall competitiveness through a gradual shift from producing solar-grade polycrystalline silicon wafers, polycrystalline silicon solar cells and corresponding PV modules to producing monocrystalline models and the company plans to stop production of polycrystalline silicon wafers at by the end of 2019. Industry sources in Taiwan indicated that this is mainly because SolarWorld's existing production is not competitive with China-based fellow makers in production costs.
