Intel, at the Intel Developer Forum taking place in San Francisco during August 16-18, announced the beginning of shipping silicon photonics 100Gbps optical transceivers, the world's first model integrating silicon-based ICs with semiconductor laser. The announcement is expected to benefit Taiwan-based Landmark Optoelectronics, a maker of GaAs- and InP-based epitaxial wafers used to make optical communication components.
