The Green Energy and Environment Research Laboratories under the government-sponsored Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) on January 21 formally began operating a Copper-electroplating Solar Cell Technology Platform to allow Taiwan-based crystalline silicon solar cell makers to undertake R&D using copper-electroplating technology and small-volume trial production at relatively low costs and risks, according to general director Robert Hu for the laboratories.
