Global PC demand to rebound in 2H14, says Asustek chairman

The negative impact on PC sales from tablets is decreasing and global PC demand is expected to significantly rebound in the second half of 2014, Jonney Shih, chairman of Asustek Computer said at the company's 2014 shareholders meeting on June 17.

Digitimes Research: Korea semiconductor companies to ramp up capital spending in 2H14

Semiconductor capital spending by Samsung Electronics has topped the world's semiconductor companies for the fourth straight year since 2010. In 2014, Samsung's semiconductor capex is expected to stay flat at US$11.5 billion as compared to the previous year. However, since Samsung plans to begin install production equipment at its Line-17 fab in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, its semiconductor capex in the second half of 2014 will be higher than that in the first half, according to Digitimes Research.

China market: x86 server shipments up 22.9% in 1Q14, says IDC

Shipments of x86 servers in the China market during the first quarter of 2014 totaled 350,000 units, up 22.9% on year. Meanwhile, factory revenues of x86 servers during the quarter reached US$1.07 billion, growing 24.5% on year.

KYEC to hike 2014 capital expenditure

Wafer testing service provider King Yuan Electronics (KYEC) plans to increase its capex budget for 2014 from NT$5 billion (US$166 million) to NT$6 billion to expand testing capacity for high-end and nice-market applications, according to the company.
