US startup accelerator Plug and Play may set up branch in Taiwan

Plug and Play Tech Center, claimed as the world's biggest startup accelerator and most active venture capitalist based in the Silicon Valley, is studying the feasibility of setting up a branch office in Taiwan and will soon send specialists to the country to solicit corporate members, in the hope of duplicating its win-win operating mode in Taiwan, according to company sources.

Basic trackers take back seat as smartwatches accelerate in 2Q17, says IDC

The worldwide wearable market was once again graced with positive growth as shipments grew 10.3% on year, reaching 26.3 million during the second quarter of 2017, according to the IDC Worldwide Quarterly Wearable Device Tracker. The quarter also marked a turning point in the market as basic wearables (those that do not run third party apps) declined for the first time with annual growth of negative 0.9%. Meanwhile, smartwatches like the Apple Watch and Android Wear lineup grew 60.9% in the quarter thanks to fitness and fashion enthusiasts.

Nanya disposes of more Micron shares

Nanya Technology recently sold an additional three million shares of Micron Technology, according to company filings with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE). A total of about NT$42 million (US$1.39 million) will be recognized from the sale, the company estimated.
